Instead of reducing emissions, TPP\u00a0Kostolac\u00a0B\u00a0in 2020\u00a0emitted almost 16,000 tons more sulfur dioxide\u00a0than in 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reri.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/kostolac-B-emisije-vs-nerp-ENG-01-1024x1024-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3370\" width=\"468\" height=\"468\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.politika.rs\/scc\/clanak\/477899\/Emisije-sumpor-dioksida-iz-termoelektrane-u-Kostolcu-u-skladu-sa-propisima?fbclid=IwAR3Ry-r7ciFd1CPMx_mFKpkL14pmvCEzjxjN60D2swLZjoM0d3YzfDGQKlk\" target=\"_blank\">daily newspaper\u00a0Politika<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mre.gov.rs\/aktuelnosti\/saopstenja\/mihajloviceva-u-kostolcu-zastita-zivotne-sredine-i-energetika-zajedno-za-zelenu-srbiju\" target=\"_blank\">Ministry of Mining and Energy itself<\/a>, Minister\u00a0Zorana\u00a0Mihajlovic said yesterday in\u00a0Kostolac\u00a0that \u201c<em>emissions of sulfur dioxide and particular matters\u00a0are lower than\u00a0those\u00a0in the European Union and that they are in line with what the Energy Community has prescribed<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, although the desulphurization plant at TPP Kostolac B was built in 2017, it did not contribute to the reduction of sulfur dioxide emissions into the air during 2018, 2019 and 2020. TPP Kostolac B emitted 113.913 tons of sulfur dioxide in 2018, 79.113 tons in 2019, and 95.097 tons in 2020. The sulfur dioxide emission ceiling for TPP Kostolac B according to the NERP is <strong>7.957 tons<\/strong>, while the emissions for all twelve thermal power plants covered by the NERP\u00a0are limited to a maximum of\u00a0<strong>54.575 tons per year<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During 2018, 2019, but also in 2020, PE EPS did not adhere to the prescribed obligations, and has been greatly exceeding the emission ceilings for sulfur dioxide every year since the beginning of the NERP application.
