Renewables and Environmental Regulatory Institute (RERI) condemns discrimination against the media and a ban on N1 and Al Jazeera’s at the opening of the “Cibuk 1” wind farm in Mramorak. Such a process is unacceptable in a society that seeks to be democratic and open. Public authorities, like all citizens, should clearly condemn such behavior.
Without prejudice to who is responsible for this unpleasant incident, we emphasize that it is the duty of public authorities to do their utmost to ensure that the public is informed in a truthful and impartial manner about the development of the renewable energy market in Serbia, and discrimination against the media in no way contributes to this. We particularly emphasize that reporting on the start-up of renewable energy plants is extremely important, due to the many controversies accompanying these projects and the need for public support for the energy transition.
RERI provides full support to media that report in a professional manner to the public and provide critical and objective information on all important issues. Also, RERI welcomes the implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy that have been prepared and implemented in accordance with the law and respecting the principles and standards of environmental protection and the right of citizens to participate in deciding on the sustainable development of their local communities.
