The overall objective of the project is to contribute to strengthening the local ownership of the water management system in Serbia, while particularly focusing on enhancing women’s participation in water management and protection through providing them consultative and educational support to tackle the problems related to water management in their local communities. The project particularly addresses the challenge of independent civil monitoring and will insist on transparent procedures concerning the protection of public interest and civil rights to exercise participation in decision-making processes.
The expected results of the project are:
- Established independent civic oversight of relevant policies and projects related to water resources management and protection;
- Enhanced multidisciplinary dialogue on management and protection of public water goods and resources;
- Increased capacities of women activists and experts to engage in monitoring of water management policies and plans and tackle the problems in their implementation in their local communities.
The project includes the following activities:
- Organization of three consultative events gathering representatives of CSOs, experts and local authorities to discuss local challenges in water management;
- Capacity building training for women experts and activists – representatives of CSOs and informal movements, for engagement in water protection;
- Social media campaign for raising public awareness on the topic of existing challenges in water management and womens’ initiatives in water protection.
The project is implemented with the support of the Embassy of Canada to the Republic of Serbia, in the period from July 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024.
