The overall objective of the project is to support the energy transition of the Serbian energy sector in line with the EU and global climate and energy objectives and efforts.
Within the Serbian national GHG emissions inventory the overall contribution of the energy sector is 80%. As the largest producer of electricity and the sole owner of coal-fired power plants in Serbia, it is essential for the state-owned company Public Electricity Company (EPS) to take a leading role in the decarbonisation process. Within this project, RERI aims to :
- Enhanced transposition and enforcement of relevant EU acquis and ratified international treaties pertaining to energy and climate chan
- Increased transparency and accountability of the Public Electricity Company of Serbia and its green energy transition pathway
- To raise awareness on the importance of the involvement of the Public Electricity Company of Serbia in achievement of climate neutrality goals;
- To increase public demand and to deepen public dialogue on energy transition.
Project outputs:
- Developed and published monitoring report on the role of the Public Electricity Company of Serbia in energy transition progress and achievements;
- Findings of the report, with recommendations, presented to relevant stakeholders and general public;
- EU and the Energy Community acknowledge the results of monitoring and utilize findings in reporting and monitoring on progress in application of energy and climate acquis in Serbia;
- Monitoring findings are endorsed through development of the NECP;
- Organized expert events to discuss the current state of play and pathways for EPS energy transition;
- Increased public engagement in energy transition in Serbia;
- Responsible authorities and EPS are exposed to legal and social responsibility due to the inactivity in combating climate change.
