RERI’s work programme is centered on advancing the role of environmental civil society organisations both on local and national level in monitoring and development of environmental, climate and energy policy.
The expected outcomes of the programme are:
- Environmental civil society organisations are capable of performing independent oversight in EU accession progress and achieving the Green Agenda goals in Serbia, focused on pillar Decarbonisation: Climate, energy and mobility, and pillar Depollution; Biodiversity;
- Higher transparency, public participation and enforcement in transposition and application of environmental and climate acquis in Serbia;
- Serbian authorities are more accountable towards their international environmental and climate commitments.
Activities are divided in 4 clusters, including capacity building, watchdog and advocacy activities:
- Support to civil society capacities development, through organisation of the Annual capacity building programme; providing support to local CSOs and activists; organisation of the Regional environmental law conference;
- Strengthening organisation’s internal capacities, by improvement of online platform for rapid response, establishment of regular annual financial and programme external audits, improvement of visibility and communication strategy;
- Improving transparency, accountability and participation in implementation of relevant EU environmental acquis, primarily related to environmental impact assessment, air quality and biodiversity protection;
- Advocacy initiatives for transposition and application of the Environmental Liability Directive, Environmental Crime Directive, Improving the application of the IPPC law and the Climate Change law; increasing transparency of GHG emissions data, Increasing alignment of the Serbian NECP with the Paris Agreement, EU climate neutrality goals and requirements of the Energy Community Treaty.
The project is implemented with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, in the period from January 1, to December 31, 2025.
